Term
Closing Line ValueCLV
The single strongest indicator of long-term sports-betting skill.
Definition
Closing Line Value (CLV) is the gap between the odds at which a bet was placed and the consensus market price at kickoff. Consistent positive CLV indicates a bettor regularly beats the closing line — the closest available proxy for genuine sports-betting skill, and a 25-point component of Crypto Bet Capital's Bettor Score.
Example
You lock the Lakers moneyline at +120 (decimal 2.20). At tip-off the consensus market sits at +105 (decimal 2.05). Your CLV on this bet is +6.8% — the line moved in your favour, so the market eventually agreed with you.
Why it matters
Win rate over short samples is mostly noise. CLV captures whether your information was correct before the variance played out. It is graded across every bet you place inside the platform.
